Internationales Begegnungszentrum (ibz)

The ibz offers a comprehensive cultural program, and an interesting variety of events and projects to promote integration.

Based on a resolution by Karlsruhe City Council, the Internationales Begegnungszentrum Karlsruhe e.V. – was founded in 1995 to combat xenophobia and right-wing extremism.

With information events and many opportunities for multicultural encounters, the ibz helps reduce prejudices and promotes understanding between citizens of Karlsruhe from around the world.

Its aim is that cultural variety is experienced as an asset. It wants to highlight both the differences and the shared aspects of cultures, the common values and interest in peaceful and respectful co-existence in Karlsruhe.

Eleven associations meet in the ibz and cooperate with us in a variety of ways.

At a glance

We want to promote the interest in and understanding of other cultures and regions through information events and projects, and develop culturally-aware attitudes.

We aim to help people who move to Karlsruhe to find their feet faster, and feel at home here soon.

Information, help and contacts

The “Welcome to Karlsruhe” project provides first-hand information and guidance for new arrivals. This service helps them feel welcome in Karlsruhe with advice, networking and support.

We offer three ways to avail of this:

1. The weekly “Welcome Café”, every Wednesday from 4 pm to 6 pm in Café Globus in the ibz. The “Welcome Café” not only permits networking, information and encounters, it also builds personal relationships. If required, we provide Integration Guides to give you advice and support and accompany you to the authorities and administration.

2. The Info Exchange combines services and information from a range of providers (e.g. Job Center, Schools Department, Integration Office, migrant associations etc.). The Info Exchange compiles information and passes it on. It takes place twice a year. For further details, call: +49 (0) 721 89 33 37 10.

3. An efficient and closely cooperating network of public and private institutions which can advise and help you.

See the ibz website for information on the members and their services.
