Business support, the transfer of technology, established clusters and infrastructure, and world-class institutions of education and research.
Welcome to the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion!
Spanning 5,900 square kilometers that some 1.63 million citizens call home, the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion is one of Europe's strongest in terms of business and innovation. It truly offers an ideal set of local factors: Employees with outstanding training, solid infrastructure, first-rate educational institutions, and highly engaged business support organizations, all of which combine to form the basis for a strong, healthy economy.
Our region's further advantages lie in its diverse mix of industries, the high percentage of forward-thinking technologies involved, and the array of innovative small and midsize businesses – specialists in their respective market niches – spread across all of its communities. And let's not forget the world-renowned companies that have headquarters or branches here! What really makes our region special? Having so much research and development going on close by – with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) topping a list of more than 40 local universities and research institutes – gives us a key edge in innovation. Indeed, the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion is helping to lead Europe into the future thanks to KIT, the Center for Art and Media (ZKM), and networks like CyberForum.
All of this together has already made the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion one of the most successful business and innovation locations in Europe.
Public authorities have joined forces with businesses, chambers of commerce and scientific institutions to form the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion Action Group. Together we are shaping the development of the region with the aim of strengthening and promoting it as a hub for business, science and innovation. Our focus is very much on the themes of mobility, energy and IT.
