Diversity on the Upper Rhine

As part of the district reform, the District of Karlsruhe was formed on 01-Jan-1973, and benefits from an extremely favorable location. Situated at the intersection of major waterways, railways and road connections, it ranges from the northern Black Forest, along the Rhine Valley to the rolling Kraichgau hills.

As diverse as its landscape is, its 32 cities and towns are just as multifaceted in their quarters and neighborhoods, with their distinct traditions. It is part of the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion, and characterized by an exceptional infrastructure and high level of prosperity: Medium-sized companies and global corporations offer jobs, and the region is home to renowned educational facilities and residents have a wide range of activities to choose from in their spare time. Roughly 430,000 people live on 1,085 square kilometers.
