The six combined municipalities and 75 small towns welcome guests all-year round to their wine and culinary festivals and events. The region is considered a paradise for wine connoisseurs, as it is not only part of the world's largest Riesling territory, and Germany's largest red wine region, it also offers the perfect wine for every palette with its wide range of grapes. Besides wine, visitors will find a landscape of gently winding vineyards, green meadows and brooks, the impressive Pfälzerwald Forest with its castles and quaint small towns which make you want to stop and pay a visit. Thanks to over 1,800 hours of sunshine a year, almonds, roses and first-class tobacco grow and blossom along the Southern Wine Route, in addition to tropical fruit like lemons, figs and kiwis. Accommodation options range from luxury hotels to cozy privately-run B&Bs; you can also lodge with vintners, and the adventurous can even sleep in the trekking campsites in the forests along the Southern Wine Route.
The Southern Wine Route as a business region
In the south, the Southern Wine Route district shares a border with France. In the north, it borders the district of Bad Dürkheim and the city of Neustadt, while its eastern neighbors are the districts of Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis and Germersheim. The district of Südwestpfalz is its neighbor to the west. The independent city of Landau is located in the center of the district.
At the geographic heart of Europe, the district has a particularly favorable location. Situated within reaching distance of the conurbations of Mannheim/Ludwigshafen and Karlsruhe, many companies have recognized the useful advantages of this location, with its ideal working, living and leisure conditions, and established premises here, especially in recent times.
Thanks to its proximity to the River Rhine, an important economic axis, the Southern Wine Route has become a modern center of trade and industry at the intersection of European transit routes in the last few years. This central position in the European Economic Area offers attractive conditions for companies looking for a location where they can reach the market in Southern Germany and Eastern France quickly.
New arrivals who decide to settle here will soon see the district, with its population of just under 110,000, as home. The cheerful nature of the locals and their amiable character makes newcomers feel welcome. The Southern Wine Route is fascinating. The opportunity to live and work in a decadent landscape where others go on vacation, is one that is not to be missed.
The geographic location of the Southern Wine Route and its facilities will continue to offer excellent locational conditions for many companies from a wide range of industries in the future. Systematic expansion of the transport infrastructure means that you can reach the economic centers of Rhine-Neckar in 30 minutes, the Central Neckar, the Rhine-Main region and the Alsatian region of Strasbourg in 60 minutes by car. An efficient network of highways and local and high-speed rail connections enable you to get to the Rhine-Main Airport in Frankfurt extremely quickly.
